Im Ersten Weltkrieg diente er als Landwehrmann in der 9. Kompanie des 15. bayerischen Reserve-Infanterie-Regiments. Am 13.10.1914 fiel er im Alter von 33 Jahren w\u00e4hrend der K\u00e4mpfe im Bois Br\u00fbl\u00e9 bei Saint-Mihiel.
