Er diente im Ersten Weltkrieg als Landwehrmann und Infanterist in der maschinengewehr-Kompanie des 1. bayerischen Infanterie-Regiments. Am 13.08.1914 wurde er bei Gefechten bei Badonviller in der farnz\u00f6sischen Ortschaft <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neuviller-l%C3%A8s-Badonviller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Neuviller-l\u00e8s-Badonviller<\/a> am rechten Oberschenkel schwer verwundet.
