Im Ersten Weltkrieg diente er als Unteroffizier und Offiziers-Aspirant zun\u00e4chst in der 9. Kompanie des 6. bayerischen Infanterie-Regiments. Er wurde Mitte 1916 schwer verwundet. Nach seiner Genesung k\u00e4mpfte er in der 3. Kompanie des des 25. bayerischen Infanterie-Regiments.
