Im Ersten Weltkrieg diente er in der 12. Kompanie des 2. Infanterie-Regiments. Er wurde mit dem\u00a0Verdienstkreuz 3. Klasse und dem Eisernen Kreuz 2. Klasse ausgezeichnet.
