Im Ersten Weltkrieg k\u00e4mpfte er als Feldwebelleutnant im Landsturm-Bataillon Gie\u00dfen. Er wurde mit dem Eisernen Kreuz 2. Klasse und mit der Hessischen Tapferkeitsmedaille\u00a0 ausgezeichnet.
